Pre-war Apt Renovation
Interior Architecture
Apartment Gut Renovation 1,600 SF
This project involved the interior renovation of a three bedroom apartment in a 1910 Pre War building on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The apartment had not been updated in over 50 years and required new plumbing, electrical systems, finishes and fixtures.
The original layout followed a traditional ‘classic six’ configuration, consisting of a formal dining room, living room, kitchen, two bedrooms, a maid’s room, and one bathroom.
Our design preserved and highlighted the apartment’s original prewar details, including the wood fireplace mantle, exposed beams, and oak flooring, while reconfiguring the space with built in millwork to optimize the layout.
Select walls were removed and the layout adjusted including expanding the maid’s room into a third bedroom and converting a utility closet into an additional guest bathroom. The existing bathroom was reconfigured with new finishes and fixtures. The entry and kitchen were also opened to visually connect the kitchen and living spaces.
Through these changes the design was able to retain the classic charm while blending in new modern functionality.
