Located adjacent to the historic Baodai Bridge and Emperor’s Grand canal which date back over 1000 years,  the museum will anchor a new landscape park with pedestrian access along the river and canal. Our design sought to minimize the impact of the building on the surroundings by placing the majority of the program below a landscaped roof. The project is designed to integrate into the park by opening up the ground floor lobby with continuous glass connections to the park. On the upper levels the Exhibition Galleries were designed to float over the landscape and are formed as linear floor plans which allow for flexible exhibition space. The raised galleries also take advantage of the views of the Bridge and surrounding landscape. The project seeks to incorporate the historic landscape into the experience of the museum by tying the collection to its sense of place, and not only to the gallery walls.
