PLAZA MEDICAL CLINIC
SHANGHAI, CHINA
Located on the top floor of a high rise building on Nanjing Road in Shanghai, the project is the interior design for a health clinic dedicated to Chinese and western medicine. The design focused on creating inviting and colorful spaces that challenges the perception of medical centers as cold and unwelcoming. The entrance and main lobby are covered by an undulating back-lit ceiling plane which flows through the public spaces. Using a strong pallet of colorful finishes and textured materials the spaces were design to be conducive to feelings of health and energy. There was a particular emphasis on the lobby which was the largest open space in the clinic and typically used as a waiting area. We designed this space to be easily reconfigured as a lecture space for evening education seminars as well as for yoga and tai chi classes during other times.
